With Improv Theatre, Improv Music and Improv Dance, people find “the tools
of production” are within – we don’t need to seize power, and we don’t
need to constantly consume.
Striving to perfect a pre-planned
presentation is good indeed – it delightfully expands your awareness of
how you can be – but rehearsing for improv works at the level from
which all creation springs. So we end up with not just 1 production,
but infinite. It often is better than thoroughly-prepared productions.
In improv we play with possibilities – who can we be, what kind of world
are we in, how can the world be experienced, how can people undergo
dramatic change? Improv creates agile minds, able to see from different
perspectives, able to contend creatively with conflict.
Improv is a dynamic form of meditation. It is a practice of relaxing the
overanxious mind and letting creation flow, of creatively advancing the
story without tightening trying to control it.
Improv brings us
deeper than stereotypes. Enacting typical stories is a good start, but
improv can be subtle and it can be creative – charting new territory.
It can be funny, it can be powerful.
This is a group for
people who want to make Improv all it can be – not only fabulous fun
but a key to developing an ecological economy.
How are you growing improv in your community?
Improv can save the world.
